Hanau, flanked on the
west side by Frankfurt, the south side by Offenbach and the river Main, on
the east side from the Spessart and the river Kinzig, to the north the
Wetterau, has played an important role in the region
during its 850 year history. Since receiving the Town Rights in 1303,
Hanau' s industry has developed dynamically. Within
its walls, in 1686 the first German Manufacture of
Fayence was founded, whose product was well appreciated throughout Europe.
Not only were the Grimm brothers born here, but also
the composer Paul Hindemith. Thousands of amateur acters flock
to the annual "Hanauer Amateur Theatre Days" and the "Grimms Fairy
Tales Festival". The "Cultural Summer" livens the
Town Centre in many ways. The highlights of the year in Hanau since 1636
are the "Lamboyfest" in June and the "Bürgerfest".
Discover the beauty between the rivers Main and Kinzig, for example the
Barock Castle Philippsruhe, the German "Goldschmiedhaus", the famous
Marketplace of the city, or visit a play at the "Comoedienhaus" in
Wilhelmsbad. From our centrally located hotel you are only a few minutes
away from the "Freiheitsplatz", from which buses
depart every 15 minutes to the main station or to the "Hanauer Stadthalle".
The Hanauer West Station, from which you have suburban trains to
Frankfurt/Main, is only 3 minutes away by foot. Our Staff will only be too
glad to inform you about all the sightseeing
possibilities.
Hanau is in the centre of the German "Fachwerkstraße" which winds its way
from the Black Forest in the South northwards via Fulda, Alsfeld and
Lauterbach, Fritzlar, Holzminden and Stadt Hagen
to Stade near Hamburg.
Hanau is also the start of the "German Fairytale Trail" to Bremen via
Marburg, Kassel, Göttingen and Hameln. Not to be
forgotten is the "Hessen Applewine Road" which starts in Frankfurt
Sachsenhausen and ends in Hanau-Steinheim.
The Scottish inventor of pneumatic tyres Dr. John Boyd Dunlop, veterinary
surgeon in Belfast, sent his partner, Harvey du Cros in 1893 to found the
German Dunlop Rubber Tyre Company in Hanau. The
Industrial family Heraeus, recognised throughout the world since the 1850's
for its treating of precious metals and alloys, also originates from Hanau.
